Spokane Civic Theatre

Spokane Civic Theatre is a nationally recognized non-profit theatre located in Spokane, Washington. Incorporated in 1947, the theatre is one of the oldest community theatres in the country. In recent years, the theatre has been brought to a level of excellence〔(Spokesman-Review. "Artistic Director Helps Civic Theatre Thrive Despite Tough Economy." Jim Kershner. )〕 that has resulted in many awards.〔(Spokane Civic Theatre Website - Awards )〕 The theatre's mission is "to foster and operate a volunteer live community theatre of high artistic merit."〔(Spokane Civic Theatre Website - About Us )〕 Civic, as it is fondly called by the surrounding community, sets a high standard for theatre in the Spokane area.
Its current season 2015-2015 season and runs from September 18, 2015 to June 19, 2016. The shows to be performed on the Main Stage are ''Catch Me if You Can the Musical'', ''White Christmas'', ''Les Liaisons Dangereuses'', ''Little Women the Broadway Musical'', ''The Fox on the Fairway'', and ''Ghost the Musical''. The shows performed in the Firth J. Chew Studio Theatre will be ''Evil Dead the Musical'', ''Sordid Lives'', ''Hapgood'', and ''Fiction''.
The theatre's latest project, called Raise the Roof, is well underway. Originally, the project was worth $1.2 million and would bring an additional twenty feet of fly loft space, giving the theatre the opportunity to create even more dynamic productions. The fly loft would make it possible to fly in set pieces, walls and furniture and to safely fly actors for productions like ''Peter Pan''.〔(Spokane Civic Theatre Website - Donate Today )〕
However, in June of 2012 it was announced that, after a feasibility study with community partners, the Raise the Roof project would be expanded. Over the summer of 2013, the Main Stage Women's restroom was expanded and remodeled and a new Donor Lounge & Meeting room was added onto the building. More announcements about the scope of the project are awaited.
==General==
Spokane Civic Theatre is one of few community theatres that owns its own building and land. The present facility houses two performance spaces: The Main Stage Theatre and The Firth J. Chew Studio Theatre. The Main Stage auditorium is a proscenium theatre with a seating capacity of 336, while the Studio theatre is a small, black box theatre seating approximately 85.〔(Spokane Civic Theatre Website - Seating Charts )〕 The seating in the Studio theatre can be moved, which allows specific productions to fill the space in a new way, like the 2011 production of ''Metamorphoses'', which housed a pool. Both stages are wheel-chair accessible, and the Main Stage also provides Sennhiser infra-red assistive listening devices and a Hearing Loop system (installed in 2014) for patrons with hearing disabilities. The backstage area houses a scene shop, sewing room, storage for props, a fully furnished green room, offices and dressing rooms. Children under the age of five, including infants, are not allowed into performances as a courtesy to other patrons.
